Mixtape Memory: Newish Wave

Sometime before I was allowed to wear makeup I tore out an ad for eyeshadow from a magazine. It seemed so sophisticated to me. Later, when I was in my 20s, I found it and threw together a mix in response. Today, some 10-odd years later, I turn to this one when I'm feeling some New Wave-era nostalgia. It helps that my car radio still has a tape deck.

For the Love of Stan

There's loads of cool Golden Girls loot out there, but this necklace is the first thing I've seen that gives Stan his due.

Visions of Lisbeth

My sweet two-year-old niece Penelope visited this weekend and flipped through a book titled "How to Be a Princess", or something like that. The hubby and I smiled and thought our tough little Lena would prefer something more along the lines of "How to Kick Ass Like Lisbeth Salander." And I'm feeling like willowy Rooney Mara should have been cast in the lead of my niece's book instead of as Lisbeth, but maybe I'm just being overprotective. Here are some images of the Lisbeth I love, by Alex Kittle and Nataixa Ros.

Josh in a Firebird

Thank you, Michael Ausiello. Just your talking about NBC considering Josh Holloway for a Rockford Files reboot has left me with sweet daydreams of Josh driving a vintage Firebird to his mobile home office to listen to angry voicemails. Glad at least one network exec pays attention to those interwebs!

One year ago today she was in my belly. Now nothing can contain her. Happy 1st birthday to my little cupcake!

Immigraniada

We joined Gogol Bordello's gypsy party at Lollapalooza yesterday, and like good oldsters, we avoided the mosh pit (and later lounged in the shade). John wishes they played at our wedding, but I think we would have wanted a few more songs in a major key. Plus crowd surfing would have been difficult in my dress. The fabulous Eugene-inspired art above is by Orphan Elliott.
