Thanks to my spotting this fabulous quilted Tim Gunn today by Lucky Jackson, I remembered to DVR Project Runway. Spencer said it best: "Dear Networks, you know there are other nights in the week besides Thursday, right? Sincerely, The DVR."
These tasty old clips and bumpers made me smile through my Coco tears.
I've become a bit obsessed with this painting of Loretta Lynn by Sarah Thompson. It's as if J.J. Abrams did a remake of Coal Miner's Daughter and, with some of his time travel trickery, made her rockabilly in an alternate timeline.

These kept me busy all morning. Some samples:

Pretty excited about these flashcards I picked up yesterday from Tipple and Snack. I could lie and say I bought them in preparation to teach the little one, but really they're for me.
This has been playing in a continuous loop in our house. The baby seems to like it, sure...but who it really lulls are her aging hipster parents. Lulls us all the way back to 1997.
I found this in the midst of my magazine collection. Totally want me some Cruel Red! And do you think if I send in the dollar I'll still get a bronzed King?
Danny Brito is working on a series of illustrations of film characters he loves. I can't wait to see whose skinned knees he includes next; I'm voting for our favorite manic pixie of last year, Summer Finn. He has an etsy shop if you want to bring some home.
The first time I heard a Townes Van Zandt song, I felt the sting of love wrapped in the warmth of whiskey. (I wasn't even in love at the time, and I sure as hell didn't have any whiskey around.) I felt the same thing yesterday watching Crazy Heart. Jeff Bridges slips into the skin of Bad Blake, a faded country legend sick with drink and smoke. A familiar story, yes, but this man has a dignity barely obscured by the puke and sweat; you understand why young journalist Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal) falls easily into his arms. And oh my Lord, the music! T-Bone Burnett wrote the classics you're sure you've heard before, and Bridges performs them so well you wish you could buy some Bad Blake records from the 70s. (Just listen.) All that, plus Robert Duvall strolls in from the set of Tender Mercies! And if that isn't enough of a recommendation to see the film, I don't know what is.
