Mixtape Memory: Spring Break 1993

Back in 1993, I was anxious to get home for spring break. I had spent the previous months of my sophomore year in college moping about, taking pictures of my lap, and dating a guy who loved weed more than me. I couldn't wait to drive back to Chicago with my dad, and I made this mix for the ride. It opens with my answering machine messages from the week (including my halting, teenager-ey outgoing message) and moves into a mix of tunes way too heavy on the XTC and Sara McLachlan. Thankfully I balanced that out with some Pixies and Lush. And there's nothing like a safe sex anthem by Neneh Cherry and Michael Stipe to whip you right back to the 90s!

It's awesome that you still have your old mix tapes. This one is so perfectly 90's! I was all about the Sara McLachlan back then too :)
