Last week I got tagged by the lovely Lina with a request for some childhood memories. Some of you may not know this, but way back in 1984 Cyndi Lauper and Madonna were at an equal level of pop fame. At school recess there was lots of discussion over who you preferred: Cyndi, with her kitchy-cool fun and love of wrestlers, or Madonna, with her club sensibility and sexual gyrations. Being 12 at the time, I was all about Cyndi. Anything too overtly sexual was a little scary to me (although I distinctly recall drawing a sexy chalk portrait of Madonna on the pavement outside school). The picture at the top is me in 1984, dressed as Cyndi for Halloween. I was so excited to show up at school in that outfit! I think I was vibrating all day. Madonna's pull was inevitable, though, so a few years later I was parading around the house in my Lucky Star look (below). But I think if I could travel back in time to 1984, even knowing what I know now, I would still prefer Cyndi.

Knowing what you know now?! HA! Yeah, Cyndi was IT. Remember her performance on--was it the Grammys?--when she splattered paint all over the stage? Man, that was awesome. I've always loved Madonna's music but have never been a fan of her persona. BTW, you are my hero for posting these pics! Awesomeness all around.
WAY cooler than Madonna's Like a Virgin stage writhing! I think we are all either Madonna or Cyndi girls at heart.
It's definitely a tough call but Madge always did it for me. Perhaps a Leo loyalty issue....that or I just love her slutty ways. Ha! :)
Cyndi is an artist. I think the two are in different categories. I like Cyndi's work.

I remember loving them both, always thought Cindy had more actual talent of course, but I did however have a wall in my room with those little posters of each of them taken from Teen Beat, etc... and in the middle of all the small magazine page posters was a giant one of just madonna's head, so there you go.
AH you look great in both. I can't exactly choose between Cyndi or Madonna. I love them both. Old Madonna the new one annoys.
