INT. ALEXA'S KITCHEN. AFTERNOON.
Alexa has been busy baking and frosting the Dolly Parton of cupcakes. Finally finished, she stares, ready to dive into the cream cheese ripples headfirst, when she hears the familiar voices.
OUISER: I'm not as sweet as I used to be.
ALEXA: That's okay. I like my sweets a little tart.
SHELBY: Pink is my signature color, not red!
ALEXA: Mmmm, well...
CLAIREE: I'd prefer some of Truvy's cuppa cuppa cuppa myself.
TRUVY: Yes, you should write that one down, Alexa. It's one cup of sugar, one cup of flour...
ALEXA: Thanks, but I really just want to focus on eating right now...
ANNELLE: Is that liquor I see in your Frigidaire?!?
ALEXA: Um, yeah, but...
M'LYNN: (sobbing) My hair DOES look like a brown football helmet!!

The Force Is Strong With This One

This has got to be the best flickr pool ever. A wookie droid cake! Lando with his Colt 45 look! Princess Leia kicking ass! All during that magical time before George Lucas became the enemy of fun.

I Need Me Some Spunk

While driving aimlessly through unexplored areas of the Chicago suburbs, I saw this beacon before me, shining in the sun. Then I went inside and saw buttermilk donuts. Then the "Lemon Drop," a biscuit-style donut filled with lemon cream. Then the killer: the chocolate cream puff. I love Walter Sobchak, but as usual he's dead wrong. America does not run on Dunkin'.

Balehead

This is my favorite Christian Bale weird web fan find. Who the hell is he supposed to be here? Jamie Graham dressed up as Patrick Bateman with a Batman lapel pin?

The Assumption of Elvis

31 years ago, Elvis was floating above Graceland, wondering what the hell happened during his bathroom break. In Chris Roberts-Antieau's imagination, he was joined by a choir of angels in house dresses. Check out more of Chris' wonderful fabric pieces here. In honor of Elvis, I'll be spending the evening tomorrow with our closest postmodern facsimile, Chris Isaak. I may also eat a deep-fried sandwich of bacon, peanut butter and banana.

Sweet Summer Languor

I've been trying to savor what is left of the summer, and Sara's list of summer films has helped tremendously. Yesterday I took in My Summer of Love, a simmering mood piece that was like sipping a glass of sweet wine after a day spent lying in the grass. The story of Mona and Tamsin manages to be erotic, dreamy and tense all at the same time. It is the summer fling you think you'll regret until Edith Piaf changes your mind. Netflix it before the summer ends.

My Manic Pixie Dream Girl

I love getting packages in the mail! I just opened a great one: the LP of the soundtrack to Something Wild. I bought it not only because it funks out 80s style (Fine Young Cannibals! David Byrne!) but because the sleeve has the best painting ever by Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick. I love all of Tony's work, especially his Chicago series. His image of Lulu represents a high point in the often bothersome "manic pixie dream girl" trend the A.V. Club eloquently outlined this week.

Sweeter Than a Sioux City Sarsaparilla

I dig his style. He's got a whole Teen-Beat-wife-beater thing going on.

Bedhead

One of the downsides of cutting bangs is that I wake up looking a little 80s Stevie Nicks meets Flock of Seagulls. Thanks to straightening balm, and dadadreams' collage, I can now leave the house feeling sexy and confident!

Cupcakes Are So Last Year

I will forever love me some cupcakes, but this flickr group is cracking my shit up.

"Let's go down there and find out what's buried in that garden."

I spent over an hour yesterday looking through ellloh's illustrated odes to pop culture. Her etsy shop is like a film and television museum, featuring Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lost, The Office, Mary Poppins, Chewbacca, Flight of the Conchords, and other greats. You can check them all out here.
