While you know you should be going to see the latest Oscar bait, did you secretly go see 27 Dresses because you wanted a rom com timeout? Did you feel like you sold your soul? Well, I have the film for you. Caramel, one of the few recent films to come from Beirut, follows all the chick flick conventions that we devour like comfort food. The central characters populate a Beirut beauty shop (paging Queen Latifah) and bond over their mutual struggle with their own identities, blah blah. The surprise is that it rises above some of these conventions by including some stinging imagery that would never find its way into a Hollywood offering (bleeding as embodying female vitality). And it is all the more impressive because the writer/director (Nadine Labaki, above, who also stars) cast nonprofessionals she found on the streets of Beirut. All of this and it looks like a Bangles video:
So you can have your sweet and eat it too!

Did I mention it's cold? I feel as if I've walked into a scene from "The Ice Storm." Since I can't hang out with Elijah Wood I have to take advantage of the few things I do love about this deadly time of year. Like boots! I have been trolling etsy for some inspiring boot images and here are some of my favorites. Above are A.T. Whim's snowy boots on etsy.
This image is from EM La Freniere on etsy.
A great print from Jen Oaks. Happy almost Spring!
For those of you who, like me, remain stuck in the cold and snow, here's a mix of tunes that will stir the embers. Winter Suspicious print from The Good Machinery's etsy shop.
