Okay, so I (guiltily) turned on MTV the other night to watch the Britney documentary. Sometimes I just can't help myself. Brit seemed so pretty on the outside but so sad, sad. Watching her I was reminded of Jonas Mekas' reaction to her head shaving incident. Jones who, you ask? Jonas, 85, was one of the founders of American avant-garde cinema in the 60s. He is still going strong, and recently he did a film every day for a year; one of them was about Brit. I don't know why, but I can watch it again and again. You can watch it here. "guiltily". Ha! I laugh only because it seems that all of us tuned in. Did we sense her plea? I don't believe we are all just voyeurs wanting to watch her crash and burn. I think we are, like she said, wanting to see her "strive and do well". She does seem so very sad but I also got the sense she seems very, very lost. I wish she could see Jonas' film
Okay you've made me feel so much better about watching it. I worry that if I turn on MTV my brain will atrophy ;) I totally agree that everyone I know is pulling for her; that's why Jonas' film made me smile.
Wow, so glad to be introduced to Jonas Mekas' work! Sadly, I missed Brit on MTV (no cable, only Netflix), but I can't help but follow her every move on PerezHilton.com. We're all junk food junkies at heart.
